# Power of attorney (Latvia)

A power of attorney lets another person act for you in a matter you name: collecting a document, dealing with an office or signing in your place. It says exactly what they may do and until when.

## Who signs

- The person giving the power
- The person receiving it, if they sign to accept it

## What you fill in

- **Both people** — names, personal codes and addresses
- **What they may do** — the matter and the acts, as exactly as you can
- **Until when** — the end date, or the matter it ends with
- **Passing it on** — whether they may hand the power to someone else

## What the document covers

### Who gives it and to whom

The person giving the power and the person receiving it.

### What they may do

The acts the person may do for you, and nothing beyond them.

### How long it lasts

The date or the event on which the power ends.

### Passing it on

Whether the person may give the power to someone else.

### Ending it early

How you take the power back before it ends, and how you tell the people concerned.

### Signatures

The person giving the power signs with Smart-ID; the person receiving it may sign too.

## Before you sign

- Some acts need a power of attorney made at a notary, such as selling property and some bank and court matters.
- Ask the place where it will be used whether a qualified e-signature is enough.
