Car sale contract (Latvia)

A contract for selling a used car from one person to another. It records the car, the price and the handover, so both of you know what was agreed and the buyer can register the car in their name.

Who signs

  • The seller
  • The buyer

What you fill in

  • Both parties — names, personal codes and addresses
  • The car — make, model, year, VIN and registration number
  • The odometer reading — on the day of the sale
  • The price — how much, and how and when it is paid
  • The handover — the date and the place
  • Known faults — anything the seller knows is wrong with the car
  • What is handed over — the registration certificate, keys, spare tyres and other documents

What the document covers

The parties

Who sells and who buys.

The vehicle

Which car is sold, named by its VIN and registration number.

Price and payment

The price, how it is paid and by when the money must arrive.

Handover

When and where the buyer receives the car, its keys and its documents.

Condition and known faults

What the seller has told the buyer about the car’s condition, and that the buyer has seen it.

Changing the registered owner

Who registers the change of owner, and by when.

Signatures

Both sides sign the same file, each with their own Smart-ID.

Before you sign

  • Register the new owner with CSDD, the Road Traffic Safety Directorate.
  • Before you pay, check the car’s history and that it carries no unpaid fines or liens.

Sign it with Smart-ID

In the next step you add your own document; the filled-in template comes with the lawyer’s text.
